Captivated by this scene on the creek near Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park, my imagination pictured her strolling along the banks, fishing or preparing to launch a canoe. She wrote about her life in Cross Creek (Florida) with such passion, weathering many challenges and hardships while crafting stories about the people and land she loved. I am a daughter of Florida, where four generations before me drew sustenance from the land, beginning when my ancestors first settled in Lake County during the mid-1800s. The story behind the title of this piece is a very special one. The image had been stored in my archives for about a year until I stumbled upon it one Friday afternoon … then early the following morning, God awakened me and brought this scene to my mind. I asked the Holy Spirit to guide my hands as I edited this piece, and felt the presence of God revealing Himself to me as this image came to life.
